No Ramadan bazaars, less food wastage

THE absence of Ramadan bazaars this year following the spread of COVID-19 has resolved the problem of food wastage that occurs each fasting month, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri.He said this was spurred by the recommendation made by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that Muslims cook their meals at home.“No Ramadan bazaar, what is bought and cooked is within control. So, the wastage is minimised,” he told reporters after a contribution-presentation ceremony to the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM)

Friday prayers to continue, says minister

FRIDAY prayers will continue as usual as long as Covid-19 is classified as “under control” by the Health Ministry.Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri said only those who have the Covid-19 symptoms are exempted to attend Friday prayer as they are categorised as the ill patient.Zulkifli also recommended for some adjustments to be made, such as shortening the Friday sermon timing so the interactions among the crowd could be minimised.“It is also proposed for the mosque to provide hand sanitiser and mask as the safety and preventive measure, while people should also perform ablution at home instead of at the mosque,” Zulkifli said.
