"eyewitness news" in north philadelphia today where the shorts, t-shirts, certainly, came in handy. meteorologist kathy orr is outside soaking up the sun on the cbs-3 sky deck and she has our sticky forecast. >> very sticky, chris. right now i have your breezy forecast, on the skies deck a little bit of the wind bringing some comfort the to the hot temperatures. the high today 93. the humidity moderate, but that will change tomorrow. in philadelphia 91. eighty-nine in millville. eighty-eight at the the airport in atlantic city. down the shore temperatures still in the 80's even though that ocean water temperature is quite cool in the wake of arthur only sitting at 65 degrees. we are watching as a severe threat to the north and to our west through state college, scranton, upstate new york, some scattered showers and thunderstorms some of which are severe and that threat will move closer to us during the day tomorrow. tuesday afternoon, some thunderstorms especially north and west with downpours, gusty wind and frequent lightening and that could come closer to philadelphia during the mid week. coming up we will talk about the possibility of heat wave number two in just one week and severe weather threat that will continue at least through wednesday, across the delaware valley. we will show you who has best chance of seeing those types of storms. in the meantime i'll see you later in the broadcast with next weekend's forecast, but for now back to you. i just hear gunshots and i got down, i didn't pay attention until i heard her scream and i ran to my mom and she was crawling towards the other lady. she was bleeding. >> inches from death. camden county girl is shot as she sleeps in her sicklerville home. police are trying to figure out who fired that bullet. while the the young victim recovers from the hospital her family is left to ask why? upsetting and it is a shame. >> you would think you would be safe inside your own home. >> reporter: not the the case around 12:30 this morning the usual calm pierced by the sound of violence. police say a gunfight erupted right here at intersection of hathaway and hey wood, as a result, two people hit by stay bullets. >> i just hear gunshots so i got down, and i didn't pay attention so i heard her scream and i ran and my mom, she turned to run she was crawling towards us, she was bleeding. >> reporter: asleep in her bunk bed tia hudson was shot in the lower back. realizing what happened the 13 year-old called to her mother and three sisters for help. >> she was crying like i got shot, got shot. >> reporter: similar screams heard across the street as well, a 56 year-old woman was cut after stray bullets flew through her wall and shattered glass inside her bedroom. both close calls, that left members of this community thinking the same could have happened to them. >> when i moved here 20 years ago there was nothing like that out here, i don't know what is going on. >> reporter: police are trying to figure that out as their search for leads continue. >> we will find out who they are and they will get what is coming to them. >> reporter: family looking for justice as their honor student, the dancer, their joy, recovering from the hospital. in sicklerville, jane carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". a judge in montgomery county hand down a stiff sent tones this man joseph francone, four to eight years in prison for stealing thousands of dollars from wedding parties. some of his actions were caught on tape. francone did apologize in court today, he confessed to being a wedding crasher and said he had a drug problem. philadelphia police are looking for two robbery suspects, both armed with guns, those suspects robbed the foot land, market in the 5500 block of rising sun avenue last week. police believe that the same suspects robbed the same store a few weeks prior to that. in both cases, the suspects got away with cash, and cigarettes. fire department takes action, after a fire in southwest philadelphia, kills four children and destroys several homes. the department installed smoke detectors and distributed their home safety fire checklist today, long gesner street. four young children died in the large fire there saturday morning. the fire commissioner today reputed claims that the department did the not respond fast enough saying first units were on the scene three minutes after that initial call for help. a car became wedged between a tractor trailer and a road barrier on the pennsylvania turnpike causing traffic detours that lasted for more than eight hours. two people were hurt but their injuries are not life threatening. chopper three overhead as crews work to clear that scene near interchange. the lanes were reopened up at 8:30 this morning. a california man narrowly survived after being attack by a great white shark, it turns out one of the life guard there to help in the dramatic rescue is a native of northeast philadelphia. today we will hear from that life guard and people who helped train him, beaches of north wildwood. our new jersey reporter cleve bryan is live with the exclusive report, cleve. >> reporter: report, before nick mankobe came a life guard on the west coast he learn about the ocean here in north wildwood as a member of the beach patrol and he was well prepared near extremely dangerous situation. >> i have been ready, and i'm sitting here staring at this shark eye to eye. >> reporter: long distance swimmer steep even robeless it was a scary situation. over the the holiday weekend a 7-foot long great white attacked him next to the manhattan beach pier in southern california. >> shark, get out of the the water. >> reporter: as witnesses screamed one of the life guards first on the scene was philadelphia's own nick manco. >> we rolled him on to the paddle board and saw the amount of blood, and that is when i put it together that okay, we have something real right now. >> reporter: he hails from the northeast where his father eddies a swimming coach at archbishop rice an high school. >> i was very happy that he was safe and proud of him too knowing he was involved in saving someone's life. >> reporter: before moving to california to be a professional life guard year round, he manned the stand in north wildwood. >> i'm sure nick found his way to assist in some matter. >> reporter: captain bill says manco was a stand out swimmer and paddle board shore represented north wildwood in life guard competitions. he work nine seasons before moving to florida, and then california to life guard. >> nicky's out there in california representing us very well. we are proud of that. >> reporter: reflecting on the shark attack that set off nationwide attention, he credits his training for staining calm and successfully providing robeless medical care. moving forward he is trying not to think about sharks. >> i love the ocean and i will be back out there swimming, and paddling, and you know, doing my job, i just do it every day. >> nickels has two sisters that were life state senate is set to vote on a jet tax tomorrow, the money from that tax could generate money for cash strapped philadelphia school district. mayor and other lawmakers pushed for its pass evening today, if the senate approves smokers will pay $2 extra per pack, and tax will go to governor corbett for review and bring in 83 million-dollar in revenue, each year. pennsylvania state lawmakers sent a bill to governor corbett aim at outlawing revenge porn. they want people who post explicit photos and videos without permission to be held accountable. crimes with adult victims would face sentences beautiful of a day. camera shaking a bit with breezy conditions. our live neighborhood network takes us to rehoboth beach, delaware, where we are looking at umbrellas on the beach and activity over the course of the afternoon. the sun getting lower, creating shadows on the boardwalk but still packed in rehoboth beach as well. very big vacation week and if your vacationing down the shore at delaware beaches, it will be a beautiful evening. same goes here at home the in the philadelphia area and delaware valley, showers and storms well to the north, and to the west. we are just going to be seeing breeze i conditions and increase in humidity, tonight. eighty-eight in allentown. eighty-eight in trenton and reading. we will watch this cold front that is culprit setting off showers and storms. it will move a little bit closer in tuesday, providing a chance of storms, north and west but you this will be day two of temperatures in the 90's, day three, wednesday, our second official heat wave, in less than a week, believe it or not and this will bring us a better chance of scattered showers and storms and then once this front clears the coast, it will be noticeably less humid and we will get in the clockwise flow around the highs, northwesterly wind provides a deep blue skies, lower humidity, a little breeze in the air. very very comfortable. tuesday, 60 percent. thursday and friday, looking great, as we head down into the the weekend. we have a slight risk for severe weather on tuesday through northern parts of the berks county, lehigh county and to the north, possibility of hail, damaging wind. wednesday it tracks closer to the northern and western suburbs and we will keep a careful eye on that. tonight partly cloudy, warm, muggy conditions will persist, low 74 with the major airline willing to pay you thousands of dollars to avoid scenes like this. and, "america strong." the retired air force mechanic fixing anyone's car for free, getting them back on the road and on their feet. good evening on this friday night. i'm tom llamas, in for david. we begin with the rising tensions as we head into this holiday weekend. north korea and the united states, backed up by powerful arsenals, now exchanging some dangerous threats. even china warning this could all spin out of control. tonight, new images of the 22,000-pound bomb american forces dropped on afghanistan. targeting isis fighters, but also sending a message. a u.s. navy ship is standing by off the korean peninsula, and an aircraft carrier and navy strike group are headed that way. tomorrow, north korea celebrates its most important holiday. will korea use the occasion to have more tests? martha raddatz in seoul, south korea, tonight. >> reporter: tonight, amid mounting tensions with the united states, north korea's unpredictable leader kim jong-un greeted with thunderous applause by his nation's military brass. tomorrow, the hermit kingdom celebrates the 105th anniversary of the birth of its founder, kim il-sung. crowds already gathering in pyongyang. events like these, typically marked with a show of military might, weapons on parade. and also missile launches. tonight, fear something even more sinister may be in the store, that north korea will conduct an underground nuclear test. it comes during an escalating standoff between kim's regime and the white house. today, a top north korean official tells the associated press the trump administration is "more vicious and more aggressive" than its predecessor. [ speaking foreign language ] >> reporter: "trump is always using aggressive words," he says, singling out the president's tweets. "it is the u.s. that is threatening us." >> i've had meetings on north korea. he's acting very, very badly. i will tell you. he's acting very badly. >> reporter: president trump has often tweeted about the, quote, "menace of north korea." "north korea is looking for trouble," he wrote. "they have been playing the united states for years." he has promised to, quote, "solve the problem." yesterday, when the u.s. dropped the mother of all bombs on isis caves in afghanistan, the president was asked if it was a message to north korea as well. >> i don't know if this sends a message. it doesn't make any difference if it does or not. north korea is a problem. the problem will be taken care of. >> reporter: the u.s. now sending the aircraft carrier, the "uss vinson" into the region. american troops conducting military exercises on the border. north korea now reportedly calling the administration's words and actions "maniacal military provocations." and this threat, "we will go to war, if they choose." adding, they could destroy major american military bases in south korea "within minutes." tonight, china warning of, quote, "gathering storm clouds," saying, "we urge all parties to refrain from inflammatory or threatening statements or deeds." hoping a war of words doesn't escalate into the real thing. >> and martha joins us now. you mentioned china's warning in your story, but they're also offering assistance, to help defuse this crisis? >> reporter: that's right. china is offering to help resume a dialogue with the north, and vice president pence is arriving here in seoul this weekend. tom? >> martha, leading us off tonight. thank you. as the tensions with north korea ratchet up, president trump is back at mar-a-lago. where he will spend easter weekend without much of his senior staff. david wright, how will the president monitor developments in florida? >> reporter: the white house tells us he's getting regular updates on the north korean situation, but he's here without virtually all of his top advisers. and there have been questions in the past about whether mar-a-lago is secure enough to handle a crisis. remember the pictures taken in february by club guests, as the president and the prime minister of japan monitored a north korean missile launch? last week, a very different picture. the president and his advisers huddled in a makeshift situation room. bottom line, the white house insists the president is able to monitor and react as needed from here. tom? >> david, thank you. next to the fallout from the u.s. strike in afghanistan. the largest conventional weapon the u.s. has ever deployed in combat, targeting isis. afghan commando patrols with u.s. support combing through the area now. assessing the damage, and searching for information. tonight, the questions, what did the strike accomplish, and at what cost? terry moran in london tonight. >> reporter: the pentagon video shows the immense destructive power of this weapon, devastating an entire mountain valley. the boiling plume of smoke quickly turning into a mushroom cloud, rising over the massive blast area. take another look. the quiet valley, then you can see the bomb falling there, guided by internal gps right to the target. the tremendous explosion. and you can actually see the blast wave radiating across the landscape. afghan villagers miles away said they could feel the earth shake when it detonated. [ speaking foreign language ] >> reporter: "my house was shaking after the blast," this man said. "the whole area was burning on fire." "we are very happy" with the bomb, said another local resident. "we ask the kabul government to use even stronger weapons against them." the bomb, officially a massive ordnance air blast, is 30 feet long, weighs 20,000-plus pounds, and is dropped from a cargo plane, and delivers in a single explosion the equivalent of 11 tons of tnt. the most powerful weapon the u.s. has used since the hiroshima atomic bomb. afghan officials initially saying 36 isis fighters were killed and no civilians. >> if you look at that terrain, if u.s. forces would've had to have climbed up those steep hills, that high altitude, and had to have dug those isis fighters out of those caves, it would've been a great danger. and so using this weapon here and now inevitably saved american lives. >> reporter: out on the campaign trail, then-candidate donald trump made point-blank promises about isis. >> i would bomb the hell out of isis. i would bomb the [ bleep ] out of them. >> reporter: u.s. forces are on the ground in the blast zone. they're gathering intelligence and assessing just how effective this weapon, the mother of all bombs, is. tom? >> terry, thank you. back here at home, one more note from the white house. visitor logs will now be kept secret. the trump administration breaking from an obama-era practice of making the records available on a website. now the logs may not be available for years. the white house saying national security concerns drove the decision, which is already being challenged by watchdog groups. next now, a nationwide manhunt for a wisconsin fugitive has finally come to an end. a suspect accused of robbing a gun shop, seen mailing a manifesto to the white house. churches had stepped up security for easter sunday services. tonight, the threat is over. alex perez on how that manhunt came to an end. >> reporter: tonight, the man who led the fbi on an intense ten-day manhunt, paralyzing parts of wisconsin, finally in custody. joseph jakubowski brought into federal court this afternoon. >> today is truly a very good friday for all of us here in rock county. >> reporter: the dramatic lead-up to his capture starting around 7:00 p.m., when a farmer called police to report a man camping on his property in rural viola, wisconsin, 120 miles from jakubowski's home in janesville. >> i mean, the one thing he said over and over is, no one listens to me. >> reporter: he talked to the man for an hour, but didn't realize he was face to face with jakubowski until he called authorities. >> he seemed very exhausted after we talked. >> reporter: authorities creating a large perimeter. armed officers dispatched to nearby homes to protect residents. >> revolution. it's time for change. >> reporter: jakubowski on the run since april 4th, after stealing 18 firearms from this janesville gun shop. the self-declared anti-government, anti-religion revolutionary threatening to carry out attacks at churches, and police say seen mailing this rambling manifesto to the white house. nearly 11 hours after zeroing in on him, police move in, the suspect captured without incident. >> i'm just glad it's done with, that the situation is being taken care of, and we can all kind of proceed as normal. >> reporter: police say jakubowski had five guns, a bulletproof vest and a helmet when he was captured. he now faces federal gun and burglary charges. tom? >> alex, thank you. next tonight, the desperate call for help from an elementary school. police in san bernardino releasing a 911 call after a gunman made his way past the front desk and into a classroom, where three people died including a child. here's kayna whitworth. >> reporter: tonight, the terrifying call for help. >> we have an active shooter at north park elementary. one of our teachers was shot. >> reporter: gunfire sending children rushing from the san bernardino school. the caller knows exactly who the shooter is. >> do you have a description of the shooter? >> he's a black male. he's our -- mrs. smith's husband. >> reporter: police say cedric anderson firing ten shots, even stopping to reload, killing his estranged wife karen smith inside her classroom in a murder-suicide. >> i'm scared. i'm in the office. >> reporter: teaching assistant jennifer downing inside that classroom, racing to get students out. >> at that point, pure adrenaline. i had the two with me and the best i could do, with just my voice, get out. and they listened. thank god they listened. >> reporter: tragically, two innocent boys caught in the line of fire. 8-year-old jonathan martinez killed, 9-year-old nolan brandy just released from the hospital. new details now emerging about anderson's troubled past. abc news learning a previous wife filed for a restraining order against him in 1997, saying anderson threatened to kill her during their divorce. people are gathering tonight at a prayer vigil for karen smith. and a memorial for jonathan martinez is planned next week. tom? >> kayna, thank you. next tonight, one of the most prestigious boarding schools in a moment of truth. choate rosemary hall sharing the results of its own investigation that found a history of sexual abuse for decades. here's mara schiavocampo. >> reporter: it's the elite connecticut boarding school boasting prominent alumni like ivanka trump, president john f. kennedy, and michael douglas. tonight, at the center of a sexual abuse scandal. a new report finding "substantiated instances of sexual misconduct" at connecticut's choate rosemary hall boarding school. spanning five decades from the 1960s to 2010, a dozen former teachers implicated by 24 students, including at least one case of rape. the report also finding, despite years of accusations, "sexual misconduct matters were handled internally and quietly," and never reported to the police. in some cases, teachers were allowed to resign or retire. and some were even given recommendations for new jobs. >> we've seen a lot of these private sleepaway schools have had problems because the issues aren't being reported to authorities. they're dealing with it internally. >> reporter: now, the school says, "we profoundly apologize. the conduct of these adults violated the foundation of our community. we honor and thank the survivors of sexual misconduct who came forward." the findings don't involve any current teachers or students at the school. five of the teachers in the report have since died. tom?
