Amazon rumours continue to swirl in Langford and Sidney

Rumours are flying that Langford will soon be home to a new Island distribution centre for Amazon. The buzz is that a 13-acre parcel bordered by Sooke and Luxton Roads will be the site for a . . .

Distribution centre likely to serve area beyond south Island, says retail analyst

David Ian Gray, founder of DIG360 Consulting, said Thursday that companies like Amazon and Walmart come to mind, although the tenant might also be a third party, a logistics company working on behalf of many other brands and retailers. The project, with a warehouse and parkade, would be at McDonald Park and Galaran roads on federal land held by the Victoria Airport Authority. Because the property is federal, the airport authority not the municipality of Sidney will decide whether to approve the plan. Concerns expressed at Sidney council this week include traffic, building height and light pollution. The town is interested in hearing from area residents prior to its May 10 meeting, when it will look at the proposal again. Sidney is sending comments to the airport authority on May 11.

The Year in Review: Many fashion retailers say goodbye, but Aritzia continues to thrive

by Charlie Smith on December 24th, 2020 at 9:59 AM 1 of 2 2 of 2 This has been a challenging year for many clothing merchants on both sides of the border. So as we look back at the past 12 months on Vancouver’s retail scene, let’s start with some good news. If there were to be a prize for local fashion company of the year, it would have to go to Aritzia Inc. That’s because in the midst of a monumental economic slowdown, it defied the odds and actually boosted shareholder value over the year. From January 2 to when stock markets closed on December 22, the Vancouver-based retailer’s stock rose by an astonishing 31 percent.
