Published March 9, 2021, 6:31 PM Senators on Tuesday commended seven young people who made remarkable feats at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The lawmakers, in particular, cited David Lopez Almirol, Jr. founder and CEO of Multisys Technologies Corp.; Lesley Jeanne Yu Cordero, senior disaster risk management specialist at The World Bank; Edgardo Tolentino Elago, master teacher 1 of the Department of Education (DepEd); George Ilagan Royeca, co-founder, DBDYC, Inc. ANGKAS; Dr. Raymond Francis Tolentino, director National Telehealth Center, UP Manila-NIH; Victor “Vico” Sotto, Pasig City mayor; and Capt. Ron Tendido Villarosa, Jr. special forces regiment, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
All seven individuals are awardees of the The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) Award in 2020 of the Philippine Jaycees.

Senate Commends Seven TOYM Awardees
The Senate on Tuesday adopted a resolution commending the seven awardees of The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) of the Philippines for their excellence and significant contributions to the welfare of the country.
Senate Resolution No. (SRN) 621, introduced by Sen. Nancy Binay, was adopted taking into consideration SRNs 624 and 670 of Senate President Pro-Tempore Ralph Recto and Sen. Sonny Angara, respectively.
Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III led other senators in congratulating the outstanding 2020 TOYM awardees, namely David Lopez Almirol for science, technology, and engineering; Lesley Jeanne Yu Cordero for political and social sciences; Edgar Tolentino Elago for community development in education; George Ilagan Royeca for business entrepreneurship in pioneering Industries; Raymond Francis Rapal Sarmiento for medicine; Mayor Victor Ma. Sotto has been recognized as the TOYM honoree for government service.
“For the past 61 years, this search has become an institution, highlighting the unparalleled accomplishments of our active Filipino citizens who have demonstrated tangible positive changes in pursuit of excellence,” TOYM Philippines wrote.
“This year 2020, we received around a hundred nominations and our Board of Judges chose these outstanding individuals who excelled in their respective fields and inspired people by doing great works to the community,” it added.
