NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Republican lawmakers in Tennessee are gearing up to take a broad swipe at officials who have had a role in maintaining COVID-19 pandemic protections, from school boards that passed mask mandates to a prosecutor who has pledged not to enforce the governor's order letting parents exempt their students from classroom mask wearing.

The deadly shooting at a Waffle House was a mass shooting that left Nashville stunned. But the search for justice has been repeatedly delayed.

Local attorney David Raybin says mask mandates by the government are constitutional. He says laws have been in place for more than 100 years -- dating back to the Spanish Flu pandemic giving governments the right to pass laws to protect the safety and health of the public.
