The government will have eye code pchld. >> very interesting. matthew chance, good to see you. thank you very much for that. here now to discuss all of these developments in the whistleblower scandal is david rhode. he is a cnn zoeglobal analyst. david, nice to have you here. >> thank you. >> do you think its likely that the transcript of this phone call, meaning the one in the u.s., is going to be released, or do you think the white house will pretty much keep a lid on this? >> i think the wh...

Methods may be different. >> al qaeda is in many ways shadow of its former self. off chutes, i agree it is symbolic, significant that we get hamza bin laden, but you just cant count out the entire group or off chutes. this should be a reminder that groups like al qaeda are still powerful, looking for ways to damage our interests and interest of allies and partners. i think it is very important that the president remembers if he wants to and should take credit for killing hamza bin laden, he reme...

>> a couple of things go into this, fred. one, you want to be sure that you did in fact kill the person you think you did, and youre going to usually wait awhile to string all the bits of intelligence you can get, and all of the different strands to make sure you got the target you think youve had. we made the mistake in the past of announcing certain terrorist killed here or there, finding out later maybe they were grievously injured and survived. number two, you want to extrapolate all the int...

We continue to follow breaking news in the war on terror. president trump confirming the death of hamza bin laden in a u.s. counterterrorism operation. he is the son of osama bin laden and was seen as an emerging leader of the terror group, al qaeda. the president releasing a statement today that said bin laden had been killed in a united states counterterrorism operation in the afghanistan pakistan region. with me now, retired rear admiral john kirby, former spokesperson for the state departmen...

Does this counterintelligence operation have on al qaeda? >> i think it has a large impact. there was concerns i think around the intelligence community that he could emerge as a new charismatic leader like his father. were not sure of his exact birthdate, he was in his late 20s. there were reports that hamza bin laden married the daughter of atta, one of the pilots that crashed into the world trade center. so i think this is a significant victory for the u.s. intelligence community. my guess is...

Feeling very comfortable in this setting, especially after expressing himself on that? >> to be honest, i dont think so. hes quite isolated this to issue. i think many americans give him credit for trying to confront china on trade and take risks in that area. but the russia argument just doesnt make any sense. russia is not a major trading partner. recently vladimir putin barred opposition members from running from parliment in the moscow assembly. so its not true. there arent other people who ...

>> david, this sends a message to european allies. you say it also plays into the hands of u.s. adversaries. >> i think theres a message that sort of china, russia, even isis are putting out, americans are sort of ignorant, aggressive, and greedy and thats exactly what this plays into. its essentially saying we believe in democracy and people should be able to rule themselves, but were going to go buy that country because, you know, the president would like to buy it. all of that plays into thos...

Base at tuly, can give us more ports and so forth. we might have to pay something for it. we could help denmark out in that respect. but thats professional diplomats talk, just like in korea, we could have had the professional diplomats work out what it means to be -- to show a progress toward nuclear disarmament on the peninsula. but when you elevate everything to heads of state level, it may be good politics for the president of the united states, but its not good diplomacy. its not likely to ...

Pulling out doesnt make any sense at this point. there are only 2,000 american troops, and it will give isis an idealogical victory. these movements arent just about controlling territory, theyre about boosting their ability to recruit fighters to get people to carry out a tax in this country in europe, and withdrawal will help isis recruit more people. >> and, colonel, what about for afghanistan? the u.s. has been in afghanistan for this war since 2001. the president speaking was a bit ominous,...

Nation." >> well come back if we have to. we have very fast airplanes, we have very good cargo planes, we can come back very quickly, and im not leaving. >> trump as ordered a withdrawal of u.s. troops from syria, a move that has been met with criticism from some of his own party in congress. and as cnn reported on friday, the pentagon is raising concerns that isis could regroup in syria once the u.s. has withdrawn. with me now, retired air force colonel cedric clayton and the executive director...
