WGA members voted overwhelmingly in favor of a new contract that ended a 148-day strike that roiled the film and TV industry and caused thousands of job losses.
The Writers Guild of America (WGA) leadership has voted unanimously to end the strike, allowing Hollywood writers to return to work. The members now have until October 9 to vote on a proposed three-year deal, which includes pay raises, increased health and pension contributions, and protections around the use of artificial intelligence. The estimated value of the deal is $233 million per year. Writers have also won guarantees of minimum staffing in writers rooms and minimum pay rate increases. The strike s end means that daytime and late-night talk shows can resume airing. However, the SAG-AFTRA actors union remains on strike.
Hollywood's writers' union says its members could return to work on Wednesday while they decide whether to approve a three-year deal that provides pay raises and some protections about use of artificial intelligence among other gains.
