Warmest night of they year expected with daytime highs rising towards 30°C

The Netherlands will experience the hottest night so far this year during the overnight period from Friday into Saturday. It will be dubbed a "tropical" night by national meteorological service KNMI if the temperature does not dip below 20 degrees Celsius during the evening and overnight hours in De Bilt, Utrecht, considered to be the meteorological center of the country. Temperatures could reach 30 degrees during the day in parts of the country, with storms likely on Saturday.

NL gets 2 tropical days for every degree of warming; Mediterranean warming alarmingly

The Netherlands gets two extra tropical days for every degree of global warming, the meteorological institute KNMI reported on Thursday, one day after the Spanish weather institute Aemet raised the alarm about the increasing temperatures of the Mediterranean Sea.

Code Orange issued for thunderstorms, hail and wind gusts on Sunday

Saturday's tropical heat will be followed by another day of extreme weather conditions on Sunday. The national weather institute KNMI has declared a Code Orange for Sunday afternoon and evening as severe thunderstorms approach from the southwest. During the showers, there is a local chance of hailstones the size of golf balls. Severe wind gusts of 75 to 100 kilometers per hour are also possible during the showers.

Hottest day of the year: Temperatures up to 34.3 degrees in the Netherlands

It is officially the warmest July 8 since measurements began in 1901, Weeronline reports. At 3:10 p.m., the temperature in De Bilt rose to 31.9 degrees. The old record was 31.6 degrees, measured in 1959. It is also the hottest day of the year so far. Until Saturday, June 11 was the hottest day, when it was 32.2 degrees in Hoek van Holland.
