HBO Sisyphus is one of Greek mythologys more memorable tales: the man who cheated death twice but couldnt escape his comeuppance when it finally came for him. As the title of this weeks instalment suggests, Mare is feeling very sorry for herself after the showdown which closed out the previous episode, staring at the ceiling as her family leave for work. After trying to frame Carrie with a packet of heroin, and the regrets over her relationship with her son before he killed himself, Mare is fi...

Published: By: Advertisement Whodunit, Lady Hawk? HBO-made, Sky Atlantic-aired detective drama Mare Of Easttown passed its midway point with another head-spinning plot twist at the climax of episode four, enigmatically titled “Poor Sisyphus”. After college girl-turned-sex worker Missy Sager (Sasha Frolova) was violently abducted, “Gone Girl Number 3” (as cable news dubbed her) was unceremoniously slung into the same dingy basement as Katie Bailey – the local g...

"Mare of Easttown" is a drama that follows the main character Mare Sheehan, a suburban Philly detective played by Winslet, who is struggling to solve two local murder cases while enduring struggles in her personal life.  Kate McKinnon impersonates Winslets character in the skit. But McKinnon goes by Care instead of Mare in the sketch. The narrator describes McKinnons character as "an actress with a messy ponytail that says forget Im actually British." Alex Moffat plays the role of detective Co...

With episode 3 of Mare of Easttown now upon us, it seems eerily appropriate that we have three main suspects in the Erin McMenamin case. Two of them seem a little too obvious though, and with Mare off the case now all bets are off as to how (or even if) this will get resolved. Because despite what the higher ups seem to think, Mare is a fantastic detective, but maybe a not so fantastic human being. One of the opening shots of this episode is a "WATCH CHILDREN" sign in the town, which is an ac...

The sad truth is that Mare Sheehan was never going to make it to the conclusion of the Erin McMenamin case and be lauded as a tireless hero cop. She was never going to get a redemptive arc in which a new solve casts a positive light on her past police work. No one was going to tell her that surely, the detective that busted her hump solving Erin’s murder didn’t bring just as much self-ruinous dedication to the Katie Bailey case too. No matter how amazing a detective Mare is, none of that wa...

HBO Are we ready to get our teeth into the story? The first two episodes have been filled with cliffhangers and red herrings to arouse our suspicions, but as we get to know the people of Easttown a little better, the search should be starting to narrow. But this is TV!! So dont unfasten your seatbelt just yet as we should still expect to be thrown off the scent a few more times. This weeks episode again opens by returning to the crime which the series has been circling around, showing us Erin ...

One thing that I really appreciate about Mare of Easstown is the urgency with which characters share information. In these murder mystery shows, the audience is often aware of crucial details weeks before the characters decide to open up to one another. That can become frustrating the longer it drags on. Mare is refreshing in that regard, and this third episode, in particular, wastes no time spilling its secrets to anyone in earshot. Following last week’s revelation that Frank (David Den...
