a private business would when things simply aren t working, they start from scratch. now, we just heard from some of the teachers who, you know, understandably, they re suddenly out of work. and they say, you know, we really wish we would have had the chance to turn things around. but the way i understand this particular turn around model works, the school district can hire up to about half of the good teachers back. right? that s right. that s right. and we know there are great teachers at central falls high school. there are great teachers in every school in rhode island. and i know that dr. gallo, the superintendent is very interested in bringing back as many of the great teachers at central falls high school as she can. deborah, let me ask you this because so many parents are watching this story and i would guess that a lot of them are saying all right, finally! finally, a school district is doing something to save our kids. what can other school districts learn from this? and
i think that we have for far too long, not taken these kinds of steps because they re very, very difficult and this is indeed a very difficult move for everyone involved. but for far too long, we have not done, you know, what we need to do in order to bring about real change to provide a better educational experiences for our children. well, we should real briefly read a response from the central falls teachers union. they say instead of trying to fix this system with a successful model, the administration has decided to scapegoat the teachers. all right. we re going to have to end it there for today. deborah gist, thank you so much for joining us today from providence, rhode island. thank you. thank you. i don t think that will be the last school district to do that. they did it first. we ll see who follows suit. coming up on the show, newt gingrich says president obama just had dumb ideas. so how does the former house speaker think we should fix health care? we ll ask him.
