Talibans decision of banning girls education will cause irreparable damage to Afghanistan if not reversed, said Deborah Lyons, UN Special Representative in a meeting in Qatar with Suhail Shaheen, a Taliban member who currently serves as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistans official spokesman at their Doha office.

The decision to postpone the return of girls at the higher grade levels appeared to be a concession to the rural and deeply tribal backbone of the hard-line Taliban movement.

The decision is a reversal from previous pledges that leaders would eventually reopen classes for girls.
