I think that was kind of what they felt that was no longer tenable. and i think they felt like they couldn t trust her to invite her into the room with em this and then feel like she s meeting with what she said is weekly with speaker mccarthy. and saying publicly things like this about the debt limit negotiations, which was really a core fight for the freedom caucus. listen. i m angry, i have to deal with the debt ceiling issue. but, again, to me, it is like the shiny object, it is not connected with the budget, the budget and appropriations is the real fight. i m willing to negotiate and get something and get it over with. so that we could do the real work and cut spending. to be honest, that sounds actually perfectly reasonable. but for the freedom kacaucus, s was saying stop fighting over this thing that is really their reason for being in many ways. for sure. i mean, she is she s kind of matured as a member of congress, i guess, in terms of being more

Towards the middle. but desantis is consistently doing the opposite. even worse, he s all style, no substance. the style is ugly. instead of trying to fix one of the most challenged public school systems in the country, he does these performative cultural war starts that will not leave a single student better off. instead of dealing with the fact that florida ranks very poorly and health care, he spent his time banning comprehensive reproductive care and abortion. he is really even going out of his way to appeal to violence seditionists. again, this is a tactic from the authoritarian playbook. ruth ben-ghiat, and katherine stewart. thank you very much. very informative. after the break, the latest on the debt limit negotiations. i ll be joined by congresswoman, judy chu, and congressman, some ted lieu, right after this. ter this the us, you ll find pnc bank. helping businesses both large and small,

Who are we actually going to give up in this negotiation? i think every american needs to be very clear, that s what they re asking for. don t protect the vulnerable class, right? make sure that this multiple class doesn t have access, that s what they re negotiating here. they re not negotiating anything that s not gonna hurt the american people, if they said, okay, we re not gonna give cuts to wealthy businesses or something. that s another conversation. when you actually put our most vulnerable on the table, to cut their benefits, that we promise to them, that s when we have a real problem that we have to actually step back and ask ourselves, what are we doing? what are we really negotiating? that should never be the case. two other questions about the debt limit negotiations, if you will. first, on veterans. you said on the veterans affairs committee, do the concessions for veterans, that we re hearing about, again, no one has seen any text, did those ease some of your concerns?

Extremists like this? and part of how we do that is we changed this arcane death limit authorization that we have to pass every year. this is nothing that is required, it s something that has been a routine three republican presidents. it s something that we can change, there is a bill that s already out there that the vast majority of democrats support. this does not need to happen ever again, and i am in full support of getting rid of these debt limit negotiations, and making sure our people cannot be held hostage by extremists. representative melanie stanford, thank you so much. i appreciate it. still ahead, everybody, a look at what we know about what is in the debt ceiling deal. including what democrats were and were not able to get. and how texas progressives are responding to attorney general ken paxton s impeachment.

Negotiate on the debt limit. and that they ultimately did negotiate. the big question is, did they concede something just for avoiding to fall? that s what the president was determined not to do. the white house is going to say, they simply negotiated on the budget. and if you look at the contours of this deal, there s nothing too out of the ordinary that suggests either side got rolled here. very different than the 2011 debt limit negotiations. where democrats absolutely did get rolled, they had to choke down two trillion dollars in spending cuts. that nobody really wanted, they undid eventually without a single penny in tax revenue, at the time, the republican speaker, john boehner, said he got 98% of what he wanted. you re not gonna hear kevin mccarthy say that, that s not what s going on here. yes, republicans did get some victories on the spending front, they get to spend lest next last year the next year, that is to his point, rare. they got some of what they wanted in conservati

. this just in to cnn. we re getting details on what the final sticks points are in the debt ceiling negotiations on capitol hill. what are the issues? reporter: good afternoon. yes, we have some new reporting on some of the remaining issues that they re continuing to work out in these debt limit negotiations. we re told one of the issues is speeding up the process for energy permitting projects. that is a key thing that one of the republican negotiators is pushing in these talks. we re also told they made some progress on a new provision to impose work requirements on some social safety net provisions. so that s something they ve made progress on, but i think they re still working on language. another issue that is unclear is spending cuts for domestic
