Apple is overhauling the cryptographic security of iMessage by introducing a new messaging protocol to thwart advanced computing that has yet to become a feasible threat, and probably won't for years.

Apple announced an important update to iMessage, which might have turned this app into the safest messaging app available.

Now the safest messaging app available, iMessage offers encryption so secure that even threats from the future wont be able to crack your conversations.

As said before, it doesn’t matter where you position yourself on the paranoid spectrum: encrypted messaging is getting more and more popular. Here’s another fact: Q-Day is coming.

We are introducing PQ3, a groundbreaking cryptographic protocol for iMessage that advances the state of the art of end-to-end secure messaging. With compromise-resilient encryption and extensive defenses against even highly sophisticated quantum attacks, PQ3 provides protocol protections that surpass those in all other widely deployed messaging apps.

Apple, already preparing for the next generation of threats, is introducing upgraded encryption to protect iMessage against future attacks using quantum computers.

Upgrade to roll out with the release of iOS 17.4

Apple is launching its latest iMessage security protocol, PQ3, with its next OS updates for all Apple products that use the end-to-end encrypted messaging app.
