Texas City property owner who accused city officials of land grab wins in court
FOX 26 Reporter Randy Wallace explains what occurred in the court hearing.
TEXAS CITY, Texas - If we had not had the funds to fight and had the wisdom of God, we would have lost our property, said Prince Ella Green.
Green says she had the truth on her side and the judge agreed. They are building these cases against the land owners and then giving them the inability to correct it and then taking their property away from them, said attorney Valerie Jewett.
He lost his abatement hearing.
joining me now is drick johnson president of the naacp in mississippi state conference. sir, thanks for your time tonight. what have you heard. thank you for having me. what have you heard from governor barbour on this issue? today we haven t heard anything. we were surprised and appalled when we heard the news that this organization was going to seek an official license plate honoring nathan forrest. to us he is a domestic terrorist. he should not be honored with any official seal or anything for the state of mississippi. it is ironic that we look at individuals like osama bin laden and timothy mcveigh and call them terrorists and disregard the fact that individuals like nathan bedford forrest terrorize african-american citizens of this country for many years until we finally were able to get the federal government to intervene. mr. johnson, what does it say about the group of people who want this man on a license
the union. it was an act of treason and the human beings we tried to hold in bondage should be respected and honored today as they should have been respected and honored before. and what happens if governor barbour goes ahead with the license plate and has them manufactured and put on cars in the state? what happens then? well, i ll be interested to see how far his bid for the presidency goes if he seeks to be silent on this issue and it demonstrates how he will govern as president. we need to move forward as a country, as a unified country, respecting and honoring all citizens and not divided the way we were in the past. governor barbour now has an opportunity to stand up and be a true leader of this state. why is he doing that? mr. johnson, why isn t the governor standing up and saying we re not going down that road? it seems like he doesn t want to separate himself from the very people who were proposing this.
