PATIALA: Police in Patiala booked over 100 Unemployed TETpass ETT Union members in Patiala on Saturday after lathicharging them. Police resorted to the action to prevent protesters from marching to the CM’s residence.
Union members have been protesting against the state government to demand jobs. On December 6 too, they staged a protest in Patiala for their demands.
On Saturday, protesters gathered at Baradari Park, from where they marched towards the CM residence at 2pm. They were not allowed to cross YPS Chowk in Patiala city as police had done barricading to prevent the protest march. Around 4pm, after talks failed between the protesters and duty magistrate, police resorted to a lathi-charge and left some protesters injured. The protestors later sat at the YPS Chowk for indefinite period.
Patiala, December 19
Several unemployed ETT teachers who were protesting against the state government were injured when police allegedly resorted to lathi-charge, here on Saturday.
Police allegedly ‘cane-charged’ the protesters when they tried to scale the barricades near YPS roundabout barely hundred metre from the Chief Minister’s residence.
The teachers initially started a peaceful protest after they were given verbal assurance of solution over their demands. After waiting for half-an-hour, they tried to march towards CM’s residence and police “cane-charged” the teachers, including women.
The protesting teachers said the state government was not serious to advertise the jobs and had been dilly-dallying for years now.
