SP Shukla added that total 11 FIRs have been registered and 13 houses have been demolished in the town so far. The police will continue their action against the people involved in criminal activities, he said.
After the incident, there was a rumour in the town linking this arson to retaliation for Mondayís demolition drive. On the other hand, local administration and police are tight-lipped about the incident as the exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The vehicle driver Shakil, 40 of Haryana, said that he had been transporting the motorbikes from Noida in Uttar Pradesh to Cochin in Kerala. The fire broke out only in front of the vehicle due to a short circuit, and he jumped from the vehicle to save himself, he added.
