The "precious" 10th Century Book of Deer goes on show in Aberdeen from Saturday, until October.

A “tiny and precious” Book of Gospels that was used at a Pictish-era monastery in Scotland more than 1,000 years ago has come home.

For the first time in a few centuries, Scotland's oldest surviving manuscript - Book of Deer - has returned to its north-east roots.

For the first time in more than 1000 years, the Book of Deer, possibly Scotland’s oldest surviving manuscript, will return to the North-east in 2022.

The 10th Century Book of Deer will go on show in Aberdeen next year after funding was secured.

An ancient manuscript which contains the oldest surviving written Gaelic in the world is to return to Scotland for the first time in centuries.
