Australia’s Defense Space Command is working on a plan to buy so-called soft-kill technology to destroy enemy satellites

Australia’s newly established DSC is looking for a non-kinetic capability aimed to “detect and deter” attempts to interfere with its use of the space domain.

The new satellites will be integrated into SDA's first operationally capable set of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, called "Tranche 1," the SDA spokesperson explained.  

"I think it's a really important part of where we go to is just looking at how we can have that sort of electronic warfare type of capability to allow us to deter attacks or certainly interfere," the head of Australia's Defense Space Command said. 

"What this is really about is making the most out of our core technology with fixed geometries and no moving parts," Hypersonix co-founder Dave Waterhouse said. "And that compares with other systems out there that have got thousands of moving pieces that are incredibly complex."
