Basmati rice, a staple food in India, has been named the Best Rice in the World by Taste Atlas. India also ranks 11th on the list of 100 Best Cuisines in the World . Basmati is a long grain aromatic rice grown in the Himalayan foothills of the Indian sub-continent, known for its soft and fluffy texture, delicious taste, superior aroma, and distinct flavor. India cultivates around 34 varieties of Basmati rice, making it a major exporter to countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, UAE, and Yemen. Other notable rice varieties include Arborio, Arroz Carolino das Lezírias Ribatejanas, Rice paper, Uruchimai, and Riz de Camargue.
In a meeting that took place in New Delhi on Friday, exporters of the crop from Punjab said India currently is the sole producer of premium Basmati globally.
