A single-engine plane made a gear-up landing this afternoon at the New Castle Airport after a malfunction with the plane s main landing gear forced the pilot to land without the gears extended, airport officials said Monday.
The gear-up landing happened at about 3:12 p.m. on Monday when the Cessna C-177RG landed in the grass parallel to the runway, said James Salmon, spokesman for the Delaware River and Bay Authority, which operates the airport.
Units from the Delaware Air National Guard Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting and Wilmington Manor Fire Company responded to the scene, Salmon said.
