Giving back to the community is a key part in caring for the next generation. This fraternity went the extra mile to show local students that they matter.
On March 21, 2020, a group of young women officially chartered Delta Phi Lambda. This sorority became the University of Tennesseeâs, as well as the state of Tennesseeâs, first Asian interest sorority.
The journey to start the sorority started in 2019, when three members sought to form a group that could share some of their values as well as some of the same struggles they have faced while going to a university that is predominately white.
The original Delta Phi Lambda was founded at the University of Georgia on Dec. 5, 1998, by the sororityâs founding mothers: Anh Ngoc Nguyen, Linh Khan Do, Yvonne Minh Tah, Rebecca Kim Stephenson, Carmela DeGuzman, Theresa Sung and Sarah Chong Mi Cho. According to the organizationâs recruitment co-chair Abigail Srisavath, the founders felt some disconnect from within the Asian community, and that led to the founding of the sorority.

JonTavius Lake is the first person in Alabama to be cured of Sickle Cell through a Haploidentical Bone Marrow Transplant. Born and raised in Tuscaloosa, he recalls the days of feeling pain as early as kindergarten and having to go to the Emergency Room. His mother would be right by his side, holding his hand and telling him everything would be alright.

Dr. Monte Linebarger is more commonly known as the “The Champion Principal”. He has 20 years of educational experience. Monte has served as a teacher and coach on the middle school and high school levels. His educational experience includes Teacher, Assistant Principal, Elementary Principal, and the Elementary Director of Instruction.
