The Bourne Board of Selectmen has approved the creation of an Interim Director of Police Services position in an effort to keep current director of police services Paul J. Shastany
Less than two weeks after Bourne Police Chief Dennis R. Woodsideâs last official day in office, Paul J. Shastany, former chief of police in Braintree and Stoughton, has been appointed to serve as interim police chief in Bourne.
Bourne Town Administrator Anthony E. Schiavi announced the appointment during the Bourne Board of Selectmenâs remote meeting on Tuesday, January 19. Chief Shastany was brought out of retirement to serve as interim chief in Bourne. His official title, Mr. Schiavi said, will be interim director of police services.
âWhen I was asked if I would be interested,â the chief told the board, âI was delighted.â
A wide range of issues relative to the Bourne town charter was addressed by the town’s Charter Review Committee during a lengthy discussion with Bourne Town Administrator Anthony E. Schiavi.
The Bourne Capital Outlay Committee has approved its recommended $2,866,510 capital spending budget for Fiscal Year 2022 to be part of the townâs total FY22 general fund operating budget.
The committeeâs approval was made during its remote meeting on Monday, January 4. Committee chairwoman Mary Jane Mastrangelo noted that the budget breakdown shows $1,664,010 will be paid for with free cash, $200,000 from the townâs waterways fund and $1,002,500 from Integrated Solid Waste Management retained earnings.

The ISWM facilityâs $1,002,500 appropriation would cover replacement of several pieces of equipment at the landfill. ISWM general manager Daniel T. Barrett told the committee he is looking to replace a 5-year-old bulldozer and to purchase a new 25-ton hydraulic excavator and one-ton containers.
