When the Iowa State Fair returns in August, it will include a new, dedicated space where fairgoers can enjoy tractor pulls, monster trucks meets, rodeos, barbecue competitions and other family-friendly events.
The fair on Monday announced that the Elwell Family Park will open midway through the fair on Aug. 17 and 18 for a tractor pull. Situated in the northwest corner of the fairgrounds, the venue will have seating for up to 2,100, grassy rises for better viewing, a concessions trailer and temporary restrooms.
That s just phase one. Eventually, the park will have seating for 6,000, permanent restrooms and expanded concessions, the fair said in a news release.

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa State Fair is returning this summer with a new space that ll host tractor pulls, monster trucks meets, rodeos and barbecue competitions.
The Elwell Family Park will have permanent seating for more than two-thousand when it opens for a tractor pull during the fair.
It ll eventually seat six-thousand people and have permanent restrooms and expanded concessions.
The State Fair has announced a pledge of two-million dollars from real estate developer Denny Elwell and his wife Candy is making the park possible.
Additional family friendly events will come in the future, including monster trucks, rodeos and barbeque competitions among others.
