Subscriber only A former Linc Energy executive had his stay application dismissed at the Planning and Environment Court of Queensland in Brisbane on Monday, March 15. Linc Energy was partly responsible for one of Queensland s worst environmental disasters during an experimental coal seam gas project on the Western Downs at Hopeland 30km from Chinchilla between 2007 and 2013. Court documents reveal former Linc Energy founder Peter Bond filed for a stay (which means to stop certain requirements), of an Environmental Protection Order made against him. The Environmental Protection Act states an EPO is a legal tool issued by the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection, to a person or company to undertake specific actions within specific time frames to remedy a risk or prevent further harm.

Department of Natural Resources Mines and Energy staff met with the residents during a private meeting on Thursday to discuss concerns over head lease owner China Bloom. The long-running conflict between the residents and China Bloom has made world headlines in recent weeks. It is understood residents raised several issues with department staff during the meeting, including access to the original boat ramp on the island, commercial flights to and from the island, access to national parks and the use of Airbnb s. Former One Nation candidate for Whitsunday Deb Lawson has axed the Australia Day protest on Keswick Island, citing safety and planning issues.
Hundreds of people had registered their interest to attend the event, which came in response to concerns over the island’s Chinese management.
In a statement posted to the Keswick Island Reclaim Aussies Rights Facebook page, Ms Lawson confirmed the protest had been scrapped.
“I’m sorry to have to say that (the) Keswick Island Australia Day 2021 event is now cancelled,” she said.
“I have been in discussion with Queensland Police and the discussions, submissions and approvals I have to meet makes it impossible for this to go ahead as I am the sole person who is liable.

Subscriber only Mackay MP Julieanne Gilbert has facilitated a meeting being held with Keswick Island sublessees today as tensions continue to simmer over access issues. The
Daily Mercury understands the private meeting will be held in Mackay between sublessees and a local representative from the Department of Natural Resources Mines and Energy. A spokeswoman for Mrs Gilbert confirmed the meeting would go ahead and was for sublessees only. She said Mrs Gilbert had facilitated the meeting.
