Council Member Tom Cook and Council Vice-Chair Yuki Lei Sugimura will co-host a community meeting at 6 p.m. on May 8 at the Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center. The meeting’s intent is to gather input from the community and provide information regarding the County of Maui’s proposed water-delivery agreement with Free Market Ventures. The resolution authorizes the administration to enter into an agreement with Free Market Ventures, LLC, which includes drilling wells in Kula and the County purchasing water from the private source.
After a community meeting in Pukalani on March 29, concerns arose about the timeframe for assessing a 30-year water purchase agreement for drilling wells in Kula. The Chicago-based developer, Free Market Ventures, LLC (FMV), has since extended the timeline to allow the council more decision-making time.
The ongoing testing launched this week due to complaints over water quality at the temporary campus, which opened its doors to students at the beginning of last week.
Inspections will occur from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, excluding holidays, and will start in Pāpaʻikou, followed by Pepe‘ekeo, Honomū, Hakalau and Ninole.
