Mark Kelly in next year’s election. Lamon, who has never run for office and is not well-known to voters, released a video introducing himself as a Washington outsider and successful businessman. He s entering what could be a crowded field of Republicans seeking the GOP nomination in one of the highest-profile 2022 U.S. Senate races. “I have strong principled conservative positions that as a military veteran, as a job creator, I understand business,” Lamon told The Associated Press. “I understand how to compete globally. I am very much into a level playing field for our American workers.”

He also joins the race in his first-ever run for office and not well known to voters. Lamon founded DepCom Power, a Scottsdale-based firm that engineers and builds utility scale solar plants. He stepped down as CEO to focus on his Senate run but remains chairman.

Lamon, 65, a Paradise Valley resident who grew up on a farm in Alabama before serving as an engineer airborne officer for the U.S. Army, is the first Republican to jump into a race that could be central to the party’s chances of retaking the Senate majority in 2022. He is the founder and chairman of the board of Scottsdale-based Depcom Power, a solar engineering and construction company that employs 1,600 across the nation.

Aberdeen Mayor Maurice Howard said a majority of the board approved to sign with the companies, so they can find projects for the city to invest in.
