KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) To help support efforts in homeless assistance. Kalamazoo City Commissioners have voted to approve an agreement in the form of a $250,000 grant to the United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region.
During a virtual meeting Monday, Commissioners discussed the matter at length with representatives of various housing assistance entities.
According to city documents, the funds would be taken from the Foundation for Excellence 2020 Fiscal Year fund balance to support the Disaster Relief Fund (DRF) and amend the 2021 budget accordingly.

KALAMAZOO, MI Kalamazoo city commissioners talked further about how to spend $100,000 on efforts to reduce gun violence in the community.
Discussion among city leaders during a Monday, Dec. 14, City Commission work session touched on frightening examples of how the issue is being felt in the city, from the regular sound of gunshots to residents feeling unsafe in homes struck by gunfire.
Over 70 homes have been damaged by gunfire in 2020, Deputy City Manager Laura Lam said during Monday’s work session. Plans being formed now call for city outreach to talk to people about the damage to their homes, understand the scope of work needed and to help address the damage done.
