Deschutes Fair Board Openings

Deschutes County residents are invited to apply to serve on the Deschutes County Fair Board. The Fair Board oversees operations of the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center, a 320-acre event site located in Redmond. The Expo Center offers 200,000 square feet of flexible indoor event space, four livestock arenas, five barns, a full-service RV park and more. Fair Board members are appointed to three-year terms and are not paid for their time. They attend twelve meetings each year. Meetings are usually held on the second Thursday of each month at 3 p.m. The Board of County Commissioners is seeking to achieve broad geographic representation among fair board members. Residents from all areas of Deschutes County are encouraged to apply. Applications will be accepted until Sunday, Dec. 4. More walk-in first and second doses available at Redmond mass vaccination clinic REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Mass Vaccination Clinic at the Deschutes Fair & Expo Center will continue to offer walk-in COVID-19 vaccine appointments this week. “It was great to see so many people come out last weekend for our first walk-in hours and we’re excited to offer more walk-in times this week,” said Molly Wells-Darling, incident commander. “Walk-in appointments are an easy and convenient way to get your vaccine.”  First dose appointments First-dose walk-in appointments are available on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon and on Friday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Walk-Up COVID Vaccine Appointments Saturday Walk-up COVID vaccine appointments are being offered Saturday, May 1 between noon and 2 p.m. at the Mass Vaccination Clinic at the Deschutes Fair & Expo Center. First-dose appointments will only be offered at the Mass Vaccination Clinic through the end of next week. Operations will continue through the end of May to complete second-dose appointments. Residents can choose a convenient time and schedule a vaccine appointment directly by visiting www.centraloregoncovidvaccine. com. Pre-registration for vaccine appointments is no longer required. “This week, we’re on pace to administer our 100,000th dose at the Mass Vaccination Clinic,” said Molly Wells-Darling, Deputy Incident Commander. “With cases surging, getting your vaccine is an easy way to protect yourself, your loved ones and our community. If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, please schedule an appointment today.”

State Adjusts Student Learning Options The Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Department of Education released an update to the Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance.  Right now, about 175,000 students in Oregon are attending school in person. Governor Kate Brown issued an executive order requiring all Oregon public schools to offer universal access to hybrid or full in-person instruction by the weeks of March 29 for grades K-5, and April 19 for grades 6-12.   What does this all mean? Some key changes from the guidance: There’s a simplified table showing how schools will use county case rates, case counts and test positive rates to decide when to offer on-site or hybrid learning and when they might limit instruction to distance learning only.
