Utah Gov. Spencer Cox announced late last week that he plans to speed up COVID-19 vaccinations in Utah, adding new groups to the list of people who can receive the vaccine, the Deseret News reported. Cox outlined plans of an executive order to make sure this happens. A total of 89,431 vaccine doses had been reported administered as of Friday, less than half of the just under 199,000 doses that have been delivered to the state since the first shipments arrived at Salt Lake-area hospitals in mid-December, according to the Utah Department of Health.

SALT LAKE CITY Less than a quarter of the 127,375 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines reported received in Utah have been used to vaccinate health care providers and long-term care facility residents and staff as of the end of the year. “The initial rollout of the vaccine has been slow, slower than anticipated, slower than we wanted,” said Rich Lakin, immunization program director with the Utah Department of Health. “We hope to be at a much faster pace in the next 15 days.”

SALT LAKE CITY The initial rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine has been slower than anticipated in Utah, state health officials reported on Wednesday. About 23,970 vaccines have been administered, though there is a 24-hour reporting requirement from hospitals, health departments and other partners who are administering the vaccines, meaning that the actual number of people who have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is higher, said Rich Lakin, Utah Department of Health Immunization Program director.
