2023 was another tremendous year for innovation at the University of Colorado Boulder. Campus researchers and inventors created a strong crop of 162 breakthrough technologies this past year. LongPath is harnessing quantum technology to detect methane emissions from oil and gas operations, innovation that benefits industry and investors—and the planet. Most recently, LongPath received landmark financial backing from the Department of Energy (DOE) for a loan of up to $189 million to accelerate the scale-up of the company’s monitoring systems.

CU Boulder will contribute translational research, startup creation and strategic leadership as a key research university partner in a new $160 million National Science Foundation initiative to promote climate resilience.

Vitro3D, a CU Boulder startup pioneering volumetric 3D printing for life sciences, just closed its first investment round of $1.3 million. The hard-won vote of confidence from the investment community will allow the promising new venture to pursue ambitious technical advances while continuing to build critical business capacity.

The Communication Technology Laboratory was pleased to take part in the CO-LABS panel discussion with U.S. Representative Joe Neguse (CO CD-2) to hear from several federally-funded research labs in Colorado.
