NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The man who shot and killed a Tennessee nurse as she was driving to work two years ago was found guilty of second-degree murder on Tuesday, while a co-defendant was acquitted.

The case took two years to come to trial after Nashville nurse Caitlyn Kaufman was shot to death during her commute to work.

Devaunte Hill, who shot and killed Nashville, Tennessee, nurse Caitlyn Kaufman in 2020, has been convicted of second-degree murder. A co-defendant, James Cowan, was acquitted.

One of the two men charged with killing Butler County native Caitlyn Kaufman while she was driving to work in Tennesse was found guilty.

A jury has convicted Devaunte Hill, 23, of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Lebanon nurse Caitlyn Kaufman, 26, in December 2020 on Interstate-440.

The trial for two men accused in the murder of Nashville nurse Caitlyn Kaufman resumes Monday with closing arguments. Jury deliberation is likely to take place on Monday as well.

One of the two defendants in the shooting death of Butler County native Caitlyn Kaufman took the stand in his own defense in Nashville on Saturday.

On Friday, the state rested its case in this trial. The defense asked the judge for acquittal, but the motions were denied.

Devaunte Hill took the stand in his own defense while his co-defendant, James Cowan, opted not to testify about the death of Caitlyn Kaufman.
