On September 28, 2022, the Guinean judicial authorities opened a long-delayed trial of 11 men โ among them former government ministers and a former president โ accused of responsibility for the 2009 Guinean security forcesโ massacre of more than 150 peaceful demonstrators and rapes of scores of women in a stadium in Conakry, the capital. The trial is the first of its kind involving human rights violations on this scale before domestic courts in Guinea.
