CBN governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, disclosed this, in Abuja, yesterday, while disbursing the sum of N253.54 million to five researchers for the development of Nigerian COVID-19 vaccines and vaccines for other diseases. Mr. Emefiele said: “The CBN has over time emphasized the need for us to move from a consumer-based economy to a more productive economy. To this, the bank has developed intervention programmes and schemes across various sectors including the health sector.

•Mustapha, Mamora hail Emefiele By James Emejo The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday disbursed a total sum of N253.54 million grant to five health researchers under the CBN’s Healthcare Sector Research and Development Intervention Scheme (HSRDIS) to aid the development of vaccines and drugs to combat communicable and non-communicable diseases, including COVID-19. The scheme is part of the apex bank’s policy response to the COVID-19 pandemic to spur the development of vaccines and drugs. CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, said in Abuja during the award of grants to successful applicants that so far, 68 proposals had been evaluated from the over 286 proposals received from the public, while five proposals with merits, valued at N253.54 million, were recommended by experts for financing.

Punch Newspapers Sections Published 10 March 2021 The Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday awarded more than N234million in research grants to five beneficiaries of its Healthcare Sector Research and Development Intervention Scheme. The recipients of the grants were Professor of Epidemiology, Olufemi Babalola, who got a grant of N50million; Professor of Microbiology, Ikechukwu Okoli, from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, who also got N50 million grant. Others are: Dr Garba Bubah from Jigawa State Polytechnic, who received N42.1million grant; while Dr John Ogedemgbe from University of Abuja; and Dr Otega Ejofodomi, an Electrical Engineering lecturer from the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, received N50million and N42.4 million, respectively.
