Decision to approve housing plans for former Wrexham scrapyard site called in by Welsh Government

A DECISION to approve plans for houses on a former scrapyard site in Wrexham has been called in by the Welsh Government. An application to build 15 homes on the former Legacy Car Dismantlers and Scrap Yard, near Rhosllanerchrugog, was supported by Wrexham Council’s planning committee in July last year against the advice of officers. The move came after council leader Mark Pritchard, who represents the neighbouring area of Esclusham, urged members to back the scheme. He said the application to redevelop the site had the support of community councillors and residents after becoming a target for crime. Officers had earlier advised that it would “fundamentally undermine” the local authority’s planning policies regarding developments in countryside locations, but the majority of councillors chose to grant permission.
