May 20, 2021 - 8:28pm EST Finding a consistent direction has always been a challenge for the Resident Evil franchise. The highs of the series have always felt fleeting as Capcom consistently wrestled with itself to figure out if its more interested in being revered as the gold-standard in horror, or to indulge in action shootouts with bullet-sponge bosses. While I cant argue that Resident Evil has its roots in B-movie shlock-fests, I can argue that those moments have always worked better when u...

Five predictions for the 2021 Nintendo E3 presentation The usual suspects? E3 is back on the menu and Nintendo’s involvement has been confirmed. There are endless possibilities for what Nintendo could showcase. However, expectations can be a dangerous thing and often lead to disappointment, as we saw with reactions to Nintendo’s February Direct this year. While we would love to expect updates on much-anticipated titles like Bayonetta 3 and  Metroid Prime 4, nothing is guaranteed in thi...

The animated video game adaptation of Castlevania has seen remarkable success. As one of Netflix’s early original animated shows (it premiered in 2017), this series can be considered a milestone in the growing presence of narrative-driven, sophisticated adult animated projects that have emerged over the past few years. It’s hard not to look at Blood of Zeus, also animated by the Austin-based Powerhouse Animation Studios, or the recent video game-based Dota: Dragon’s Blood and see its i...

An ordinary city street. A market stall overflowing with pamphlets and papers showing a spiky-haired superstar, decked out in black and smiling at the camera. A faintly flickering neon warning floats gently in the street as a creature stalks back and forth looking for juicy human prey, its elongated legs clicking on the cobblestone.  This is Scarlet Nexus and we are members of the OSF – a special task force devoted to protecting the human race from a breed of strange and surreal enemies th...

12/05/21 Scarlet Nexus is a bit of an oddity. Since it’s initial reveal, it’s felt like it’s been kept out of the spotlight. Outside of knowing that it’s an action game that features special powers and what appeared to be a very hefty dose of anime, not much was really known about it at all. Thankfully, having now spent a couple of hours with it, I know a lot more about it, and that means I can bestow that knowledge upon you. First up, Scarlet Nexus is the most anime game without a sou...

Would you like Dante from Devil May Cry in Resident Evil Village? Of course you would. Wiwilzs mod, Dante over Chris, does exactly what it says on the tin. I also quite like this joke mod, also from JTeghius Kittius. It replaces some of the picture frame filters in Villages photo mode with the Frank West selfie faces from Dead Rising 4. Well played! Last week, we reported on how Ada Wong was set to appear at a certain point in Village to save main character Ethan, after handily having been in t...
