HOLYOKE Campaign cash is pouring into Holyoke, where eight candidates are jockeying to become the city’s next mayor in a wide-open election.
In total, Holyoke mayoral candidates have raked in $152,311 since the start of the year, according to figures from the state’s Office of Campaign and Political Finance. Most of that money comes from political donations during that time period, though some candidates have transferred sums of money from their previous campaigns.
At the top of that list is At-large City Councilor Michael Sullivan, who between Jan. 1 and June 30 raised $55,278, of which $20,000 came from his previous campaign account. Fellow At-large Councilor Rebecca Lisi raised $31,986 in the same time period, $7,916 of which came from her previous election fundraising. Former councilor, Diosdado Lopez, joins Holyoke mayoral race

HOLYOKE Longtime former city councilor Diosdado Lopez has announced that he is running for mayor.
Lopez, 56, is the eighth candidate who has pulled papers to run for mayor in Holyoke. He served for 20 years as the Ward 2 councilor and was the first Latino elected to the City Council in 1991. After stepping down from the council in 2011, he was appointed in 2016 to serve as an at-large city councilor until 2017 to complete the term of Jennifer Chateauneuf, who had resigned.
“I saw so many folks and I said, ‘Well, why not? Let’s try one more time,’” Lopez said in an interview. “I want to be a mayor for the whole city of Holyoke one Holyoke.”
