The seventh Governors' Conference begins in Makueni County tomorrow. The threat of Covid-19 led to its cancellation in August 2020.

A report had shown that 19 counties had so far planted three million trees. Another 30 counties had committed to plant 7 million trees by end of May.

The conference, which was initially scheduled to take place between August 23 and 26, was postponed due to the Covid-19 spread.

This, according to the county heads, will bring the total funds allocated for counties’ operations to Sh751.45 billion.

The number of delegates to attend the convention has been reduced from 6,000 to 1,000 in compliance with Covid-19 safety rules.

Over 6,000 delegates were expected at the event, dubbed 'Multi-level governance for climate action'.
