Pinehurst’s Village Council has signed off on a 1.5-cent increase in property taxes for the coming year, bringing the tax rate to 31.5 cents for each dollar of valuation.
Before considering the rezoning request associated with a new 34-room hotel on Pinehurst Resortâs campus, village leaders want a better idea of how the facility will affect already overburdened parking.
Plans for the proposed Lodge at Pinehurst underwent an initial review by the Pinehurst Village Council on Tuesday night. The 2.7-acre site off of Carolina Vista Drive, between Pinehurst Country Club and the railroad parallel to N.C.5, is currently zoned for Recreation Development and Office Professional usage.
Last month, Pinehurstâs Planning and Zoning board recommended that the village grant the requested rezoning to Hotel Conditional, allowing the project to qualify for a set of exceptions from the villageâs development ordinances.
Plans for a hotel key to the Pinehurst Resortâs new role as an anchor site for the U.S. Open and other golfing championships have cleared the first phase of the villageâs approval process.
After more than four hours of presentations, public hearings and discussion on Wednesday, Pinehurstâs Planning and Zoning board unanimously recommended the conditional rezoning of 2.7 acres off of Carolina Vista Drive to allow for construction of a 64,000-square-foot hotel.
The project with the working title âThe Lodge at Pinehurstâ will involve 34 rooms, including some suites, lobby, meeting spaces, locker room, fitness area and bar. Itâs scheduled to be finished by the end of 2023, in time for the next U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 in 2024.
