According to Reuters, the country would become the second in the world, behind the United States, to see over 400,000 people succumb to the coronavirus.
Hospitals across the nation have been forced to function at the brink of their capacities as a surge of the virus led to nearly 100,000 deaths in just over one month, the news outlet reported.

Earlier this month, Brazil began to ease restrictions and lockdowns as daily deaths in the country fell from a peak of 4,000 a day. Infectious diseases experts in the county warned, however, that lifting restrictions could lead to elevated death tolls for months to come, predicting daily averages to hover around 2,000 daily.
