DALI Alliance adopts Thread for DALI+ The Thread Group, an industry alliance addressing IoT convergence and architectures at the network layer, have announced that the DALI Alliance has adopted Thread as the first network technology that will be available with DALI+. The DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) protocol for digital lighting control makes its much easier to install robust, scalable, and flexible lighting networks. The specification, which was announced in early May 2021, brings DALI lighting-control commands to wireless and Internet Protocol (IP)-based systems and DALI+ with Thread will be the first network transport to deliver DALI over wireless, IP-based networks.

DALI+ builds on the proven and sophisticated DALI lighting-control features in wired (DALI-2 and D4i) options, and offers access to the same rich set of data from control gear, luminaires and sensors. DALI+ devices communicate using existing DALI commands, but these are carried over a wireless and/or IP-based medium rather than the dedicated pair of wires used by DALI-2 and D4i.
