Hours after popular messaging platform WhatsApp filed a lawsuit against the Indian government, the ministry of electronics and IT (MeitY) has hit back at the messaging platform. In a statement released, MeitY said, “The government respects the Right of Privacy and has no Intention to violate it when WhatsApp is required to disclose the origin of a particular message.”
The Government of India's three-month window for social media companies to comply with the new guidelines, as issued on February 25, is to end on May 25
Social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and others, which were required to abide by the rules notified in the gazette of India on February 25 under Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code Rules, 2021, have failed to comply on many accounts till date.
