Reviewed by Tim Holden Recorded at the Planetshakers regional conferences in the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore, this four-track EP was produced and mixed by Joth Hunt, who also leads the worship along with Sam Evans, BJ Pridham and Chelsi Nikkerud. "There Is No One Like You" opens with a high energy EDM feel before moving to the softer, synth-led dance beats of "The Greatest". "Above All Names" is a slow building rock ballad that moves into more spontaneous worship and the EP closes with ...

Reviewed by Louis Hemmings Rapper Hnst-T (Honesty) works as a youth leader for Real Life Ministries in Idaho and this is his debut EP. "My Life" features orchestral harmonies cleverly juxtaposed against agitated rhythmic keyboards. It shouldnt work but it does. The worship-style lyrics read blandly ("On my knees worship you/In the morning dew/Sun shining thru/See flower bloom/There is nothing that we cant do. . .") but when set to such an intriguing track you can just about bear them. Better is...

Reviewed by Stephen Curry From 1986 to 2005 John Schlitt was the voice of pioneering rockers Petra. Since his departure from the band John has pursued a spasmodic solo career. This 2012 fan-funded offering provides a classic rock sound with perhaps a slightly harder edge than Petra ever had but with a 90s feel. Dominated by the electric guitar "Live It Loud" proclaims actions speak louder than words and the melodic "One Of These Days" has an excellent grunge chorus "When will truth be the truth...

Reviewed by Steve Hayes Name: Social Club. Rappers: FERN and Marty Mar. Location: Miami. Approach: "We make music youre not embarrassed to show your friends." The album (which scores 5 out of 5 on iTunes) kicks off with an inspiring God-talk from guest Chris Durso called "Misfits" where he reminds us of our calling to be representatives of Jesus, a commitment to God, a life choice that others dont want. The album itself is a work of hip-hop art. If Misfits 2 were a painting it would be somethin...

Reviewed by Lins Honeyman Toronto-based rapper DIE-REKs debut album on the Illect label is a fine slice of low-key hip-hop which refuses to dodge the big issues in terms of faith and life in general. For instance, people who have made the ultimate sacrifice are acknowledged in the title track whilst "I Neva Knew" tackles the difficulties many men have in opening up about their problems with a hint of regret that showcases the Canadian emcees innate ability to highlight his own shortcomings whil...

Reviewed by Lins Honeyman Ohio-based rapper Armond Wakeup crams a lot into this three minute single including his views on white influence on religion ("I was not force-fed Jesus by Europeans") and cause and effect ("I dont believe in karma - the universe isnt God") whilst offering up intelligent comment on skin colour and modern tolerance which may make you nod your head in agreement. Wakeup succeeds in backing up everything he says with Gods truth and even has the time to offer up the nugget ...

Reviewed by Lins Honeyman This single from London-based singer/songwriter Tina Boonstra is a punchy little number which candidly deals with matters of personal mental health with the refrain "Im out of my depth and I dont know if Im going to make it out of here" being a case in point. Boonstra begins by saying that "getting out of the house is a triumph" and this song will connect with others going through similar issues although a little more hope would have been useful to balance things out. ...
