Green Arrow and the Canaries Explored HBO Max Pickup
DC Comics fans got some long-awaited and bittersweet news earlier this month, when it was confirmed that
Green Arrow and the Canaries has not been ordered to series by The CW. While the news came nearly a full year after the backdoor pilot episode aired as part of
Arrow s final season in January of 2020, it still upset the fans who were eager to see the continuing stories of Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy), and Mia Smoak (Katherine McNamara). According to a new report from
TVLine, the series did explore the possibility of finding a home on another platform the HBO Max streaming service. The report confirms that the HBO Max option was thoroughly explored , which is why the confirmation of the cancellation took so long.
Arrow, DC’s long-running flagship series on the CW. But many of us were excited about
Green Arrow and the Canaries, a planned spinoff that debuted as a backdoor pilot episode in
Arrow‘s final season.
But unfortunately, the CW has decided not to pick up the series. “They are very much in active discussions to see what we can do,” said CW President Mark Pedowitz, as the series could find a second life on HBO Max. “I’ve had many discussions with Warner Bros, we have a strategy involved hopefully we can pull it off.” Still, it seems unlikely as the cast contract options expired last year and have yet to be renewed.

Green Arrow and the Canaries: Katherine McNamara Says She s Open to Playing Any Iteration of Mia Queen
While the character only appeared in the final two seasons of The CW s
Arrow, Katherine McNamara s Mia Smoak Queen quickly became a favorite among Arrowverse fans. The heir to the Green Arrow legacy, fans remain hopeful that the
Arrow spinoff
Green Arrow and the Canaries will eventually move forward on the network to tell more of Mia s story but while that series fate remains a question mark, given the interconnected nature of the Arrowverse it s not impossible that Mia Smoak Queen could appear on another show and McNamara is open to any possibility to play the character again.
