The Bureau of the Customs has surpassed its collection target in February driven by the reforms aimed at boosting collection efficiency of the government’s second largest tax agency.

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT - The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Subic again surpassed its target monthly collection by over 50 percent in June, the highest achievement so far this year. Customs District Collector Maritess Martin said on Tuesday her office collected a total of PHP5,208,110,657.38 last month, which is 54 percent or PHP1,1827,161,657.38 higher than its target collection of PHP3,380,949,000. Martin said that the figure is another record-breaking revenue collection for the Port of Subic which continuously shows excellent performance by surpassing its target collection almost every month. In May this year, she said the BOC-Port of Subic, exceeded its collection target by 12.93% representing PHP441 million after posting an actual collection of PHP3,851,945,030.60 as against the PHP3,410,903,000 monthly target. At the Port of Subic, the Bureau of Customs seized 17 containers of agricultural goods such as carrots and broccoli from China worth P9.3 million (â¬158,000). Instead of the declared contents -frozen jams- boxes of fresh carrots and broccoli were found in the shipment consigned to Zhenpin Consumer Goods Trading.
It arrived at the Port of Subic last November 22 and was the subject of an alert on November 27, District Collector Maritess Martin said. The containers underwent inspection headed by the Customs bureau in collaboration with the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission, National Bureau of Investigation, and Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.
