The deceased included 12 males and 11 females in the 35-90 age bracket, according to data released by the Health Department. The deaths which had occurred between May 1 and 6 were officially attributed to COVID-19 on Friday. With this, the death toll in the district has risen to 1,098. The test positivity rate (TPR) in the district also stood alarmingly high at 25.5%. At present, 34,318 people are undergoing treatment for the infection in the district. Local transmission accounted for 3,657 of the fresh cases, which included five health workers.

More beds for COVID care Updated: Updated: Vellarada hospital made second-line treatment centre Share Article Vellarada hospital made second-line treatment centre The Rugmini (Ruckmoni) Memorial Hospital in Vellarada has been converted into a COVID second-line treatment centre (SLTC) considering the increasing number of positive cases in the district, District Collector Navjot Khosa has said. Out of the 300 beds in this hospital, 225 will be used for the CSLTC and 50 will be set apart for patients empanelled under the Karunya Suraksha project. Twenty five of the beds will be given to COVID-19 patients who directly reach the hospital. The non-COVID-19 outpatient wing will function in the blocks except the COVID-19 block.

‘Inform in advance to get treatment benefits’ Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA Patients who are referred from primary and community health centres and other government centres to COVID-19 second-line treatment centres of private hospitals should inform the hospital authorities about it well in time to get treatment benefits and keep the referral papers safe, District Collector Navjot Khosa has said. Complaints The benefits will be available in hospitals empanelled under the Karunya Arogya Suraksha Paddhati (KASP). The Collector’s direction follows complaints of loss of treatments benefits on patients’ failure to inform the hospital that they have been referred from a government hospital. Treatment will be free for those referred. The government will pay the expenses for the patient’s treatment to the hospital concerned through the State health agency.

Surveillance by the police has been stepped up in the district as part of the tight, State-wide restrictions imposed by the government during this period for tackling COVID-19, Ms. Khosa said. She requested the people to cooperate with the measures. Shops selling essential commodities will be permitted to function. This list includes medical shops, provision stores, shops selling fruits and vegetables, milk, fish and meat. Ration shops and outlets of the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation also will be open. Service centres and garages can function. Shops should close by 9 p.m.

Counting of votes to begin at 8 a.m.

Initial trends to be available by 10 a.m. The counting of votes polled in the Assembly elections will begin in the district at 8 a.m. on Sunday, adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines, District Collector Navjot Khosa said on Saturday. The counting will start with the postal ballots at 8 a.m., followed by the counting of votes polled in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) at 8.30 a.m. The initial trends will be available by 10 a.m. The strong rooms will be opened at 6 a.m. in the presence of the observers appointed by the Election Commission of India. Each round of counting will be carried out in 21 tables in three halls (seven tables each) in each counting centre. The counting is expected to be completed in 15-16 rounds, the Collector said.
