Lower Merion lawyer seeks district judge post

LOWER MERION — Having practiced law for more than 28 years, garnering trial experience and developing courtroom skills along the way, Joseph A. Hirsch says he’s uniquely and highly qualified to become a magisterial district judge. “I have also developed strong conflict resolution skills, and have helped many people successfully solve problems and resolve disputes in and out of the courtroom,” Hirsch said recently as he announced he’s seeking nomination, during the May 18 primary election, for district court judge in Montgomery County’s Magisterial District Court 38-2-04, which includes parts of Lower Merion Township. “Having the experience of trying cases in court and working closely with a diverse client base has given me a view from the trenches, that makes me particularly well suited to serve as district judge,” Hirsch added.

Morning Briefing: Trump upset with Montgomery County lawyer as impeachment trial begins; District struggles with prom plans; Embiid big again as 76ers win on road

WEATHER The clouds move in later this afternoon, then the snow tonight. Expect another cold day as we reach a high of 34 degrees. There might be up to about 2 inches of snow falling overnight. - Advertisement - NEWS Opening arguments will begin in Donald Trump's impeachment trial after an emotional first day ended with the Senate voting to hear the case for convicting the former president of inciting the riot at the U.S. Capitol even though he is no longer in office. On Wednesday, House Democrats prosecuting the case and the former president’s attorneys will lay out their opposing arguments before the senators, who are serving as jurors. The defense lost the vote seeking to halt the trial on constitutional grounds, 56-44, leaving Trump fuming over his lawyers' performance and allies questioning the defense strategy. Some called for yet another shakeup to his legal team. House prosecutors on Tuesday wrenched senators and the nation back to the deadly attack on Congress, showing a graphic video of the Jan. 6 mob violence that stunned the the world as hundreds of rioters ransacked the building to try to stop the certification of Democrat Joe Biden’s victory. Five people died.

Morning Briefing: Montgomery County Rep. to help head Trump impeachment; Fatal overdose leads to charges; Flyers' Giroux ready to get started

WEATHER It's going to be a little warmer today as the sun continues to shine bright. Expect the high to hit about 47 degrees. - Advertisement - NEWS President Donald Trump is on the verge of being impeached for a second time, the House planning the unprecedented vote one week after he encouraged a mob of loyalists to “fight like hell” against election results and the U.S. Capitol became the target of a deadly siege. While the first impeachment of Trump last year brought no Republican votes in the House, a small but significant number of leaders and other lawmakers are breaking with the party to join Democrats on Wednesday, unwilling to put American decency and democracy at further risk, even with days remaining in the president's term. The stunning collapse of Trump's final days in office, against alarming warnings of more violence ahead by his followers, leaves the nation at an uneasy and unfamiliar juncture before Democrat Joe Biden is inaugurated Jan. 20.
