Court orders release of 300 people held for SOP violations

Three hundred people arrested for not complying with the lockdown restrictions and the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) were ordered to be released by a court on Monday.
District South Judicial Magistrate Uzair Ali Khan ordered the release of all the detainees on humanitarian grounds, and declared the first information reports (FIRs) registered against them null and void.
Expressing displeasure over the production of the suspects without masks, the judge reprimanded the police for flouting the Covid-19 SOPs themselves, and observed that they should also be arrested for this.
More shops, malls in South district sealed

Several shops and shopping centres were sealed in District South for non-compliance with Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) late on Friday night and on Saturday.
On the orders of District South Deputy Commissioner Irshad Sodhar, Civil Lines Assistant Commissioner Walid Baig sealed several shops in the Clifton and DHA neighbourhoods.
According to the details issued by the office of the District South deputy commissioner, the sealed shops included gyms, salons and restaurants, and action was taken against them for not complying with the official timings.
In its April 23 notification, the National Command & Operation Centre had announced that markets throughout Pakistan were to close by 6pm, with only shops selling essential items allowed to remain open till late. Indoor and outdoor dining had also been banned during Ramazan.

The district administration of Karachi sealed over 160 shops and restaurants across the city Tuesday night for violating coronavirus SOPs.
According to District South Deputy Commissioner Irshad Sodhar, shopkeepers and people at the markets were not wearing markets or practicing social distancing.
“There is a zero-tolerance policy against anyone not following the government’s precautionary measures,” he said.
In Arambagh’s Meethadar, 150 shops, including the Textile Plaza, were sealed. The assistant commissioner of Saddar imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on 11 shops.
The Kids Play Land in Garden was sealed as well, while four restaurants were sealed in Lyari’s Baghdadi and fines of Rs14,000 were imposed.
