In the party’s first decade in power, from 2007 to 2017, its government was led by President Rafael Correa, one of the emblematic figures of the Pink Tide of left-wing governments across Latin America. When Correa left office, amid economic decline and charges of authoritarianism, he was succeeded by his former vice president, Lenín Moreno.
