Symphonic Winds and Bison Jazz Orchestra to perform in concert March 11

The OBU Symphonic Winds and the Bison Jazz Orchestra will take the stage Thursday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. for a combined concert. The performance will take place inside Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium. Admission is free but reservations are required to promote physical distancing. Tickets may be reserved online at www.okbu.edu/fineartsevents.
The OBU Symphonic Winds is under the direction of Dr. Teresa Purcell-Giles, assistant professor of music and director of bands. The group will perform “Fanfare for the Common Man” by Copland, “Excursion for Woodwind Ensemble” by Harper, “Old Scottish Melody” by Wiley and “Terpsichorean Dances” by Blackshaw.

Ouachita’s School of Fine Arts announces adjusted spring events
Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts has adjusted its Spring 2021 events, including concerts, theatre productions and art galleries, to allow students to continue their performance education as well as provide safe viewing for audiences following COVID-19 guidelines from the Arkansas Department of Health and Ouachita’s Health Monitoring and Action Team.
Live events for the spring semester will follow the same protocols that were introduced last semester, with attendance limited to the Ouachita campus community and reduced seating in order to follow social distancing guidelines. Most performances will be
OBU opens enrollment to public for spring music lessons, choirs

The OBU Music Preparatory Department is accepting enrollment for the Spring 2021 session to begin Jan. 25. The department offers high-quality music lessons, classes and choirs to the Shawnee region for all ages and levels. Instruction will be held on campus this spring with safety protocols in place.
Auditions for Shawnee Honor Choir (grades 3-7) and Concert Choir (grades 7-12) will be held Tuesday, Jan. 19, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Auditions require a reservation, which may be made by emailing prep@okbu.edu or calling (405) 585-4329. No previous experience or special preparation is required for the audition.
