Tamil Nadu civic polls: DMK-led alliance registers landslide victory - The urban polls were held in the state after a gap of 11 years and the DMK win is considered as a stamp of approval for 9-month-old Stalin government.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is leading with 281 wards in town panchayats while the party is ahead on 98 wards in municipalities.

Tamil Nadu’s ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and its alliance partners were headed for a landslide win in the elections to urban local bodies held on February 21, decimating the principal opposition party AIADMK. The DMK was poised to win around 90 per cent of the 12,800 wards/seats which will result in the party heading majority of the municipal corporations,

"As DMK led UPA alliance is winning with huge margins, I thank people. This is a certificate given to the last 9 months of our governance. This is a reorganisation for the Dravidian model," said Stalin.

Though the DMK won the 2021 Assembly election and formed the government, for a long time western Tamil Nadu is seen as a fortress of AIADMK. As per results available and trends for this region, the DMK's victory score in urban civic polls has crossed about 75% here.
